The frog resembles the V -position in the foot work: Stability and alignment of the trunk and pelvis are maintained, and the basic action of the legs is the same. However, here the focus is on the hip adductors in addition to the knee extensors and hip extensors. As with all the exercises in the hip work block, the frog demands a high degree of pelvic stabilization because the feet are in the straps instead of on the stable foot bar. Note that the resistance is light, orienting the work toward stabilization as opposed to strength and requiring the weaker muscle groups of the hip joint to do more of the work. When the resistance is higher, the larger and stronger quadriceps tend to be dominant and the pelvic-lumbar stabilizers are not required to work quite as hard.
